Three Ways to Love Your Body

Ladies, today is Love Your Body Day! To celebrate, I’m posting three awesome and (easy) things that always make me feel better about myself. I hope they work for you too!

Number 1: Work Out

I’ll be the first to admit that it’s a struggle for me to start working out. Even during my workout it’s a struggle for me to not quit/die. But after? After I feel great. I feel healthy and strong, which makes me feel awesome. Working out is also good because it gives you a sense of accomplishment. Last week you ran two miles? Psh, this week you ran three! (Okay, maybe 2.5, but still!) Plus, working out releases endorphins in your body which make you happier. Can’t beat that.

***

Number 2: Cuddle

Find me a person who doesn’t like to cuddle and I will be shocked. Everyone loves to cuddle. Go search out a person who appreciates you for who you are and snuggle in close with them. You’ll find that it makes you feel amazing about just being you. The kind of sweet touching that comes from cuddling is enough to make any girl feel appreciated, pretty, and confident.

***

Number 3: Dance in your Room

Crank some music, and totally let go. Dance it out and sing at the top of your lungs. This result in the best feeling ever because you have no one to impress, it’s just you and the music! My favorite songs to dance solo to: Natasha Bedingfield’s “Pocketful of Sunshine” (see above), Queen’s “Don’t Stop Me Now“, and Beyonce’s “Diva“. Among probably a million others.

***

So today’s the day! Do one (or all) of these things and celebrate you because, well, you’re awesome.

Happy Birthday Oscar Wilde

Today would have been Oscar Wilde’s 157th birthday!

Oscar Wilde is my absolute favorite writer (and historical figure) of all time. We still have much to learn today from both his writings and his tumultuous life. If you have never read anything by him, then I suggest you start here, continue here, and end here.

Me and my best friend by Wilde's grave in the Cimetière du Père-Lachaise in Paris. Look at all of the lipstick kisses on the stone!

Wilde is simultaneously hiliarious, harsh, and heartbreaking in his writing. In all my time spent reading classic literature (and that’s a lot of time) I have never come across any writer who has a voice like Oscar Wilde. Admittedly, some people hate his style, but I adore it. His unapologetically educated, and satirical works are, in my opinion, the best of the best.

(Plus, who doesn’t like a man who isn’t afraid to wear a cape?)

“I was working on the proof of one of my poems all the morning, and took out a comma. In the afternoon I put it back again.” – Oscar Wilde

The Best Part About Fall…

Is pumpkin pie!!

Delicious.

Delicious, spicy goodness. Pumpkin pie is like a slice of home. Combine it with a tall glass of milk, some coffee, or even tea and you’re all set for dessert (or, if you’re me, breakfast too!) This recipe from the fabulous Paula Deen looks incredible. I cannot wait to make it when I have the time! Making pumpkin pie always makes your house smell so good. This is one dessert I could eat all day, every day.

Do you have a favorite fall dessert?!

To Bike or Not To Bike?

I’ve been thinking for a while that I’d really love to have a bike. D.C. is pretty spread out and sometimes it feels like it can take forever to walk/take public transportation. Bikes are chic, easy, relatively cheap, and definitely eco-friendly, but do I have what it takes to bike in D.C.?! Riding a bike here would certainly be different than riding it in Pennsylvania! For starters, there are pedestrians. Also, the ever-intimating traffic circle. But is this really enough to keep me from buying a bicycle? I think not!

Plus, I already picked out which one I want. Adorable, no?

Do you have a bike? What is the best part about riding it?

My Favorite Place in D.C.

My favorite place in D.C. is the National Cathedral:

Religion aside, this building is in my opinion the most beautiful in the entire district. Its gothic archetecture, stained glass windows, and cobblestone courtyards seem ancient, but the National Cathedral was completed in (get this) 1990. It took over 80 years to construct, and the results are just stunning.

The gardens surrounding the cathedral are my favorite place to go when I feel like escaping city life. You can sit on the benches outside and feel like you’re in Paris near the Seine.

Do you have a favorite place in DC that I should know of? Do tell!
